Description
1963 Mercury Comet 2-Door Hardtop | Gen 1 Coyote 5.0L | T5 5-Speed | 370 RWHP | Wilwood Brakes | 4-Link
This 1963 Mercury Comet 2-Door Hardtop is a beautifully executed restomod combining the clean, lightweight styling of an early Comet with a modern Ford Gen 1 Coyote 5.0L V8, manual transmission, upgraded suspension, and serious braking hardware. Finished in straight black paint with a new black leather interior, this is a distinctive build designed to look classic while performing like a much newer performance car.
Under the custom fiberglass hood is a Gen 1 Ford Coyote 5.0L V8 sourced from a Mustang, paired with a T5 5-speed manual transmission. A dyno sheet accompanies the car documenting approximately 370 horsepower at the rear wheels. The completed build has accumulated only about 4,500 miles.
Power is delivered through a Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.54 Positraction gearing. The rear suspension has been upgraded to a 4-link setup with Viking coil-over shocks, while the front utilizes a Mustang II-style suspension with Viking coil-overs. Wilwood brakes provide the stopping power, with Wilwood under-dash master cylinders and reservoirs neatly positioned beneath the hood.
The fuel system has also been updated with a new fuel tank featuring an integrated fuel pump and new sending unit, supporting the modern EFI drivetrain.
Exterior presentation is highlighted by the straight black finish, custom fiberglass hood with integrated air intake, and well-preserved stainless trim. American Racing Salt Flat wheels, measuring 16 inches in the rear and 15 inches up front, complete the period-inspired performance stance.
Inside, the Comet features a new black leather interior complemented by AutoMeter gauges, creating a clean cockpit that maintains the vintage character of the car while providing modern instrumentation.
This isn't simply a stock Comet with a larger engine. The combination of Coyote power, a 5-speed manual, Ford 9-inch rear, four-link suspension, Viking coil-overs, and Wilwood brakes makes it a comprehensively upgraded restomod with the hardware to match its appearance.
The vehicle is currently located in Canada. According to the seller, it will be provided with a Washington title upon sale and transported to a warehouse in Blaine, Washington for buyer pickup.
