Description
1994 Wanco Totally Portable Off-Grid Power Station
Up for sale is a take anywhere off the grid power station. Use it for camping, hunting, fishing, construction site, summer home or backup for your residence. This powerhouse is on a 1994 Wanco light tower trailer platform that has a 30’ extendable tower. Mounted atop of this tower are 2- 200-watt solar panels for a total of 400 watts, with solar tracker to optimize the sun’s energy. The 30’ tower allows you to get the solar panels into the sun above the trees and can rotate 180 deg, so pointing it to the south is quite easy. The battery storage capacity is 942 Ah for a total of 11.3kWh. The system has a Lister Petter 6.5KW 120/240 Vac diesel generator and Xantrex 458 inverter charger.
You have 3 choices for charging the battery storage:
1. Solar panels
2. Generator (alternate to grid)
3. Grid

There is a lot to take in here so let me say this. This unit will not take up all the power requirements of say a 2000+ sq/ft house and all its requirements. It is most suited for say a small off grid cabin with smaller-ish refer/freezer and most all the necessities like coffee maker, microwave, flatscreen TV, radio, phone and laptop charging, 6 or so LED lights and so on. Or to take anywhere you would like all the conveniences power when out camping, parties at the beach.
With the lithium battery storage of 11.3k Wh depending on demand it should last quite a while before charging is needed. The power the solar panels will supply will go a long way to minimize drainage, and if there is a lack of sun due to weather the diesel generator will do quite nicely to charge up the batteries and/or run higher demand requirements.
If your use is more for camping and outdoor recreational use, one could take this out for a week and not have to start the generator. There is a onboard monitor so you can stay on top of power used and capacity remaining. Hook up to the grid back at home to charge it up to full capacity.
This power unit is totally self-contained with storage for solar panels. Set-up time is about 15 minutes. Removing and installing of solar panel mount frame is really a 2-person job, it weighs about 70 lbs and is awkward to move into position and insert the 1/2” pit pin pivot for up/down movement. This frame is secured to the rear of the trailer with Heavy Duty Outdoor Rubber Tarp Straps. I have 3, 50’ 1/8” steel ropes and stakes for tie-downs which I highly recommend for securing the top of the tower when extending beyond 20 feet or more.
