Description
1969 Dodge Dart GTS
This 1969 Dodge Dart GTS is a true piece of Mopar history—the very first production 1969 Dodge Dart 440 GTS built. It gained recognition in the June 1969 issue of Drag Racing magazine, where it was featured in the first-ever article on the Dart 440 GTS, clearly identified by the number 52 on the rear driver’s side window and again painted on the passenger-side fender well. This rare 'M' code pilot car is an all-original survivor with original factory paint and sheet metal, no rust ever, and retains its numbers-matching drivetrain. The 440 engine has been professionally rebuilt with a .030 overbore, stock compression, hardened valve seats, sodium valves, and a cam one step above stock. It runs strong with under 160 miles on the rebuilt engine and a fully rebuilt stock transmission. Recent updates include a new exhaust system with original-style tips, all-new brake components, a new gas tank and sending unit, and a set of new Firestone Redline radial ply tires. The interior remains largely original with a perfect dash pad and headliner; only the driver's seat has had a minor seam repair. The heater core and radiator have been rebuilt to stock specifications, and all gauges are fully functional. This car was built without power steering or brakes, as per its factory configuration. Additional parts included in the sale are a cast iron 440 Six Pack setup, factory dual-point distributor, correct numbered carburetor, NOS 440 Magnum pie tin, extra hood call-outs, and all original components removed during restoration. Owned by the second owner since 1985, it includes extensive documentation: two build sheets (one still taped to the glove box), a decoded report by Dave Wise of MMC Detroit, the original window sticker, purchase order from SaddleBack Dodge, and more. As the original SaddleBack Dodge pilot car, this rare GTS is in like-new condition and represents an extraordinary opportunity for collectors of high-performance Mopar muscle.
